Spring Ahead with Spring Cleanups

by | Feb 6, 2023 | Spring Cleanup

It's the beginning of February, and Spring has hardly sprung. But at Divine, we stay a few steps ahead so we can prep your landscape for what's to come. Now we're still in the midst of a winding down winter, which is the perfect time to begin spring cleanup. Landscape cleanup is an ongoing project for homeowners and landscapers alike. Of course, when you have lovely plants, they will create some mess. But winter, in particular, creates challenges that we need to address before we start planting flowers and genuinely enjoying the Spring. Here's how Divine cleans up your Augusta landscape.

Through Examination

To do anything right, you start with a plan. Measure twice; cut once. So before we start cleaning up your yard, we're going to take the time to take a look at it. There are general tasks that every yard needs to prepare for spring, but by noticing the state of your yard, your number of gardens, your trees, and more, we begin with a plan for success.

Garden Bed Cleanup

Spring cleanup in Augusta Your garden beds take a beating in the winter! Hopefully, you talk a little time before winter to ready them for it, but even if you did, you can't prevent all damage from the cold, snow, ice, and melt-off. Any annuals that remained in your garden will have died over the winter. You may have lost some perennials as well. The hearty perennials that made it through may have lost some leaves and parts, but nothing that won't heal in the spring after Divine gives them a good pruning. We'll also need to take the time to prune away any plants or plant parts that became diseased over the winter so that that disease doesn't spread.

Re-Mulch

In case you've forgotten, we love mulch for all it does for your garden. And mulch needs to be replenished from time to time as it breaks down, and spring cleanup is a great time to check on the state of the mulch around your trees and gardens. Then we'll take the time to touch up any mulch that needs it.

Remove Dead Plants

We touched on dead plants when we discussed flower beds, but you can lose plants anywhere in your yard. If you have trees, grass, or shrubs that died over the winter, now is the time for us to notice it and take care of it for you.

Pruning

Pruning isn't only for the spring, but winter may cause an additional need for pruning as parts of plants die or become diseased from the cold. To help maintain the health of your trees and shrubs, it's essential always to prune away the parts that aren't healthy.

Sticks and Stones

Hopefully, sticks and stones won't break your bones, but they will mess up your property. The barrage of cold, wind, and snow your trees and other plants experienced over the winter likely increased the amount of plant debris that typically accumulates in your yard due to natural growth and shedding cycles. Your lawn is now likely littered with twigs, branches, leaves, and more. All that junk will get in the way of your grass and other plants getting what they need to survive. Beyond blocking sun and water from reaching your plants' roots, plant debris is also unsightly for your landscape!

Pet Waste Removal Is Part of Every Season

Spring in Augusta Cleaning up after your pets isn't strictly a spring cleanup task though winter snow may hide a few piles until it melts. But while we're talking about cleanup, it seems an excellent time to remind you that we offer pet waste removal as an add-on service for our landscaping clients. So unless you enjoy cleaning up after your pets, why not add it?

Re-Plant

Finally, part of a spring cleanup is replenishing what you lost. This segues neatly into flower planting and other plant installations. Depending on the life cycle of your plants and when it's best to plant them, we may include replanting or reseeding as part of your spring cleanup.

Ready For Spring Cleanup?

Though groundhog enthusiasts may argue over when winter officially ends, landscapers understand it's less of an on/off switch and more of a dimmer dial. And right now is the time to start preparing for the beginning of spring by removing the damage from winter. Are you ready for spring yet? Then, call Divine for your spring cleanup and other landscaping needs because a cleaned-up yard isn't just beautiful; it's Divine.
